Dr. Moldovan is a Rheumatologist, which uniquely qualifies him as a specialist in the treatment of autoimmune diseases, arthritis, bone disorders, gout and other crystalline diseases, as well as soft tissue rheumatism. Some examples of these categories are listed below.
The diagnosis of difficult to recognize diseases and illness are often why other physicians call in a rheumatologist to assist with a patient’s care. Dr. Moldovan may utilize synovial fluid analysis (the examination of joint fluid under a specialized microscope), nailfold capillaroscopy (the magnified examination of the small vessels under your nailbed), extensive history and physical exam maneuvers, the ordering of rare autoantibody blood tests and musculoskeletal ultrasound to uncover your diagnosis.
Treatment sometimes includes medications or physical therapy, but often steroid (A.K.A. corticosteroid, cortisone) injections are needed. Injections are often very helpful for arthritic joints, tendonitis, bursitis, trigger fingers, and carpal tunnel syndrome. Knee osteoarthritis can also be approached by injecting a preparation of hyaluronic acid referred to as viscosupplementation or the “rooster’s comb injection.”
